About Paul

I founded Watkins Business and Medical Writing in St. Petersburg, Florida in 2006 because I’d read so many business and healthcare practice communications marred by poor writing, incorrect spelling, improper grammar, and a lack of proofreading. I wondered if those business owners and healthcare providers realized the negative impression those mistakes make on potential customers and patients. I decided to specialize in working with such professionals to optimize their images by maximizing the quality of their written marketing communications. Judging from the accolades I've received, I have achieved my goal!

Watkins Business and Medical Writing is a "boutique" business, which is a fancy way of saying that I focus on quality, not quantity. I intentionally limit the number of clients I work with so that I can dedicate ample time and effort to their projects and make sure that each one always receives personalized, one-on-one attention.

I’ve been writing, editing, and proofreading professionally for twenty-eight years. I graduated from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Writing. I’m an award-winning newspaper reporter and an experienced medical, dental, and healthcare marketing writer. I work with physicians, dentists, chiropractors, and other healthcare professionals in a wide range of specialties. Writing is not a hobby or side job for me; it is my full-time occupation.

In addition to my career as a freelance writer and freelance editor on the Florida Suncoast, I also have a creative side. Earlier in my life, I was active in the Tampa Bay area as an arts organization manager and booker, emcee, performer, and recording artist. Scrapbook, my debut music and poetry CD, was released in 1998 and was followed by Thoughts From Seclusion in 2000, All Things To All People in 2003, and Drive in 2006.

I enjoy cooking, collecting CDs and DVDs, dining out, rooting for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and continuing my quest for the perfect glass of iced tea.
